3, 2, 1… GO! Australian Defence Force Drone Racers are set to turn up the heat at the Airshows Downunder Shellharbour Drone Racing Tournament.

The top drone racers from the Australian Defence Force will compete against the nation’s fastest drone pilots from 1 – 3 March 2024.

First Person View drone racing (or FPV racing as it is known) is a fascinating and adrenaline-filled sport that starts with the building of the drone, to coding, tuning and then flying. It is a new and innovative sport that is becoming increasingly popular all over the world.

The drone racing qualifying heats will kick off on Careers Day on Friday 1 March 2024.

Students will see the fastest competitors demonstrate skills with high speed drone racing on a challenging track and observe the creativity of freestyle drone racing.

On Saturday afternoon, the Australian Defence Force (ADF) drone racers will compete in an exclusive elimination final to find the five fastest racers across the services. These top five racers will go on to represent the ADF against Defence Force drone racing teams at the Military International Drone Racing Tournament in London later this year.

There will be fast racing, fast crashes and plenty of debris across the field during the three-day event under the big top at the largest air show held in the Illawarra and NSW south coast.
