Arrive at Wings Over Illawarra in style by visiting the Illawarra Light Railway Museum and jumping on board one of its historic trains.

Visitors can enjoy vintage train rides to and from the airshow – ride the rusty rails.

In 2021, the Illawarra Light Rail Museum will once again be offering air show attendees the opportunity of riding an historic train from the main platform to the triangle terminus that is located at the rear of the museum grounds and then a short five minute walk to the air show gates.

The cost of a return train ride will be $10.00. Per adult and $5 per child as the Illawarra Light Rail Museum train rides operate from 9am to 5pm over the air show weekend.

The Railway Museum will be open for inspection with miniature train rides and canteen and souvenirs also available. Car parking for people wishing to arrive by historic train will be available within the Illawarra Light Rail Museum grounds and across the road in the airshow carpark on the corner of Tongarra Road and Croome Road.

The Illawarra Light Railway Museum Society Limited was founded in1972 with the objective to collect narrow gauge Locomotives and rolling stock from light railways and tramways, to restore these artefacts to working condition and then to establish a light railway working museum at Albion Park, NSW.

The collection of rolling stock include narrow gauge steam and diesel locomotives collected from the North Queensland sugar industry and also Tramways and Coal Mines of the Illawarra. The museum history can be found in the Ken McCarthy Museum Building and other attractions include the restored ex NSWGR 1890 Yallah Station Building and the 1915 Signal Box from Otford.  To further the visitor experience, a guided tour of the site and the working locomotive shed is a must, as it enhances the historical experience, tours are available by request.

The ILRMS is opened for train rides on the second Sunday of each month from 10am to 3pm. On these days, free parking is available inside the museum grounds. The picnic grounds have free wood fired BBQ facilities and a safe children’s play area. Food and souvenir sales are available in an ex NSWGR converted 1940 LFA passenger car which continues that trip back in time.
