Getting There

November 16, 2021

Driving Directions

Due to limited parking and an attempt to avoid delays, the organisers encourage you to come by train, however if you choose to drive, the Shellharbour Airport is located adjacent to the Princes Highway at Albion Park Rail, just over an hours drive south of Sydney (approx. 100km), 20 minutes south of Wollongong and 45 minutes north of Nowra. If coming from the west, the airport is located at the end of the Illawarra Highway approximately 45 minutes east of Moss Vale.

There will be NO general admission parking available on site.

Visitors will need to park in the designated public P1 carpark, where a FREE shuttle bus service will be operating to and from the main entrance gate.

P1 car park will be located on the corner of Tongarra Road and Croome Road with access from Croome Road.

P1 car parks will be manned by volunteer community groups for the duration of the show to help ensure the safety of vehicles.
A parking fee of $5 per vehicle will be charged with all proceeds going to various local charities.

Directions to public carparks will be clearly signposted.

Traffic management will be in place however some delays may be unavoidable.

To avoid traffic delays why not consider arriving by train, Albion Park train station is situated opposite the main entrance gate, less than 100m from the airport. Sydney Trains will be providing additional services for the day.

Parking

There will be NO General Admission parking available at Shellharbour Airport during the Wings Over Illawarra airshow.

Due to the large numbers of visitors attending Wings Over Illawarra and the absence of large parking areas at the airport, visitors travelling by car will need to park in the designated park and ride location. Onsite parking is only available to buses, coaches, Gold Pass holders and accredited disabled permit holders ONLY.

Alternatively, for those wishing to avoid traffic hassles, we highly recommend parking at a train station on the South Coast Line and catching the train to the airshow. The Albion Park Station entrance is less than 100 metres from the airshow entry gate and Sydney Trains have added additional carriages for the duration of the event. Click here for further information on train travel to the airshow.

Flying In

Information and Registration form for those planning on flying in to Wings Over Illawarra

We welcome those wishing to fly in to Wings Over Illawarra, and aircraft parking will be on the western end of RWY 08/26.

With the event now held in November and lifting of the air display TRA at 16:00 on Saturday and Sunday, the last light issues of previous years for pilots flying in should be well and truly taken care of.

The aircraft parking area is located within the display box, and therefore will need to be vacated during the flying displays, however a shuttle bus will be provided to ferry pilots and their passengers between the event site and parking area/campground.

Plan to arrive between the hours of 08:00 and 10:00. YSHL will be closed from 10:30 for aircraft displays on Saturday & Sunday.

If planning to arrive Friday afternoon be aware that YSHL will be closed intermittently between 13:00 and 16:00 for display practice.

The parking area is located within the display box and MUST be vacated by all persons by 10:30 daily. There will be absolutely NO ACCESS to the aircraft parking area from 10:30 until completion of the air displays (approximately 16:00).

Those planning on flying in should be aware of the late finish of the airshow (approx 16:00) and a Temporary Restricted Area will be in force from 10:30 to 16:30 (this will be lifted as soon as the display concludes). Pilots may like to consider staying overnight and departing the following morning.

A shuttle bus will be operating to ferry pilots and passengers to the event area and return them to their aircraft at the conclusion of the air displays.

Airshow tickets cannot be purchased at the pilot entry gate, so pre-purchase your ticket on-line prior to arrival.

Skydive Australia and Link Airways will be operating from the northern apron area (east of the fuel bowser) throughout the show and as such the apron will be closed to general traffic.
